Aetolia-Acarnania is located in the western part of Greece.
The prefecture is a combination of the regions of Aetolia and Acarnania. Its capital is Mesolongi and its largest city and economical centre is Agrinion.
Aetolia-Acarnania has hot summers and mild winters in the low areas. Cool winters dominate the mountain areas and in the highest elevations the summers are cool.
