Alberta - Canada
Alberta is situated in Western Canada and became a province of Canada on September 1, 1905. Alberta is bounded by British Columbia to the west, Saskatchewan to the east, Northwest Territories to the north and the US state of Montana to the south.
The capital city of Alberta is Edmonton which is located south of the centre of the province.
Alberta has three climatic regions which consist of alpine, forest and prairie. These regions are home to many different species of animal. It is possible to find bison and buffalo on the prairies and grizzly and black bears in the mountains and wooded areas. Other animals include coyotes, wolves, fox, lynx, bobcat and mountain lion.
In addition to the wildlife, Alberta has a wide range of flora such as anemones, avens and crocuses. A wide variety of sunflower grow during the summer months.
Alberta is also home to the Alberta Rocky Mountain range, also known as the Canadian Rockies. Alberta has been a tourist destination since the early 20th Century which is not surprising as Alberta has so much to offer. Attractions include outdoor locales for skiing, hiking and camping. Alberta has five national parks including Banff, Jasper and Waterton Lakes.
