Apulia - Italy
Apulia is situated in the south east of Italy bordering the Adriatic Sea in the east, the Ionian Sea to the southeast and the Strait of Otranto and Gulf of Taranto in the south.
The Italian name is Puglia.
Apulia also borders the Italian regions of Molise, Campania and Basilicata. Apulia's neighbours across the Adriatic and Ionian Seas are Greece and Albania.
On the map, Apulia can be recognised as the "boot heel".
The landscape of Apulia is mainly a plain but broken by the mountainous Gargano Peninsula in the north. There are also mountains in the north central part of the region.
Apulia is divided into six provinces, Bari, Barletta-Andria-Trani, Brindisi, Foggia, Lecce and Taranto.
Apulia is full of historical remains with Greek and Roman ruins, museums and cathedrals. The coastline is rich with fishing villages and clean beaches.
Apulia would make an excellent holiday location or villa home.
