Belize - Central America
Belize, formerly known as British Honduras, is the only official English speaking country in Central America.
Belize became an independent nation in 1981. It was previously a British colony for more than a century.
Belize is situated between the Hondo and Sarstoon Rivers. The north of Belize consists mostly of flat, swampy coastal plains although in places it is heavily forested.
The south of Belize contains the low mountain range of the Maya Mountains. The coast of Belize runs along the Caribbean Sea.
Belize benefits from having attractions such as Mayan temples and lush rain forest. In addition there is Belize's Great Barrier Reef.
Unpaved roads and lack of infrastructure makes travelling through Belize difficult. However, this all adds to the charm. Belize would make an excellent location for the adventurous traveller.
