Christmas Island
Christmas Island is a small, non-self governing territory of Australia situated in the Indian Ocean.
Christmas Island is of immense interest to scientists and naturalists due to the number of species of endemic flora and fauna which have evolved in isolation and have remained undisturbed by mankind.
Christmas Island has a tropical climate with heat and humidity that is moderated by trade winds. Tropical rainforest covers the majority of the island and 65% of this is National Park.
One inhabitant of the island is the Christmas Island Red Crab. Christmas Island is also a wonderful place for bird watching, as it is the meeting point for many sea birds including the Red-footed Booby.
